We went down the rabbit hole.
We helped one school present the story of Alice in Wonderland in a truly unique way.
The brief from the headteacher was to create a display for her Year Two Classroom that would tell this unique story.
The wall graphics needed to cover an unsightly brick wall and help finish off a series of wall spaces following a recent renovation. The bespoke wall graphics feature a mixture of illustration and photographic images with 3D shape-cut characters bringing another dimension to the walls. Famous quotes from the book give another insight into the world of Alice and her adventures.
The design and its location in the corridor allowed us to create a fully functioning table, allowing pupils to either work or play at the heart of this interactive display.
A large 3D shape-cut, fully working pocket watch is displayed against a wall of creeping ivy to introduce the themed display to visitors. Now they just need to locate the white rabbit...
We started in the sketchbook
For complex designs that require lots of different images like this, our Design Team usually take the site survey and start with sketch concepts to work out the compositions of each area. These give us a good opportunity to talk to the client about how each wall will tell the story. It’s much cheaper to work this out at this early stage. Scroll through the gallery to see how the sketches matched the final artwork.
Full of story-telling.
If you look closely enough you’ll get the full story, from the ‘eat me’ and ‘drink me’ food and giant key that gives a shrinking feeling, through the forest with all of the weird and wonderful characters, to a 3D shape-cut character of Alice returning to the real world on the ceiling. Vinyl window graphics showcase the Cheshire cat keeping a watchful eye on Alice, and the furrowed brows of the bad-tempered Queen of Hearts is also watching through the glass doors.
It’s a design that is full of lovely details that we hope will keep revealing itself more and more to the pupils over time. We certainly enjoyed revisiting the story (yes, we all read it again) and creating this thematic wall design.
